Even Local Affiliates Actively Podcast Audio, Video
I suppose it's hardly news anymore when a media outlet adds audio or
even video podcasts to its online offerings. Still, I can't help but be
impressed with the variety of offerings that my local NBC television
affiliate,
News4, makes available. With "
Star Trek"-like
fanfare, the station's website asks viewers to "join NBC4 on the
journey into a new era of media consumption -- the podcast."
From its
podcast page, viewers can add audio and video feeds that include
Liz Crenshaw's "Consumer Watch,"
Doreen Gentzler's "News 4 Your Health,"
Arch Campbell's "Arch 4 Entertainment," and
George Michael's
sports reports. Michael has a national reputation as host of the
nationally syndicated show, "The George Michael Sports Machine," which
premiered in 1984.
NBC4 does a good job on its website explaining podcasting and how to
download the feeds. The station also provides a wide variety of
streaming video feeds. Again, nothing revolutionary in 2006, although I
could hardly have said that 10 or ever five years ago. It's the norm
now, even for local affiliates.
