Changes at E-Media Tidbits

A little housekeeping: Because yesterday was my last day as an employee of The Poynter Institute, publisher of this blog, I'm no longer serving as editor. Poynter's Julie Moos is handling editing duties transitionally, until a new editor is chosen.

To dredge up a little blog history, Amy Gahran and I started this weblog together back in 2000. When I joined the Poynter staff in 2001, Tidbits joined Poynter, too, and we added a bunch more new-media experts to the contributor list.

I guess you could say this is one of the more "traditional" blogs, since an editor reviews and edits writer contributions before they're published. I think that's a good system (and especially so when there are contributors for whom English is a second language). Group blogs, in my view, should have consistency in style -- that's my copy-editor background coming through -- and an editor is necessary for that.

As for me, I've left Poynter to devote full attention to my new Internet company, Enthusiast Group LLC, publisher of a network of citizen-media-driven websites about adventure sports and activities. We're operating under the radar still, but not for much longer.

I'll continue to contribute to Tidbits periodically, but my main blog from now on will be at steveouting.com, where I plan to continue writing about new media (and with special emphasis on citizen media, given the focus of my new company). I hope to see some of you there from time to time.
