Latin America: Fast-Growing Mobile Content Market
Many Chilean news sites have jumped into mobile content market as a way to monetize their traffic. No surprise that TVN.cl (a big television station) or Cooperativa (a popular radio station) have their own "audio portals" to sell everything for mobile phones in a country with 15 million inhabitants and nine million cell phones.

That change is no surprise in Latin America, according reports from Contenido Movil 2006 -- a two-day conference (which ended March 17) about the business of producing and distributing mobile content for operators catering to Hispanic mobile users in the U.S. and in Latin America.

MocoNews reported from the Miami conference that Leila Cobo, Latin America bureau chief for Billboard magazine, claimed that Latin American ringtone growth has been "explosive," and estimated a growth rate of 200 percent per month.
