Let's Go to the Video Highlight
Maybe I've become spoiled, but I really enjoy the video highlights that now are a regular part of Yahoo Sports' (among other services) game coverage. You get a refreshed box score every 30 seconds during the game (which I usually look at online while watching Detroit Red Wings games on cable), an AP game story (the old-fashioned "a.m. lead" of who did what, when and where) immediately after the game, and a "p.m. lead" (the angle, or why/how of the story) about an hour after the game. And now there are those wonderful video highlights.

What surprised me this morning, however, was that the video highlights of Detroit's 7-3 victory in Vancouver (10 p.m. ET faceoff) didn't show up until about 7 a.m. ET Monday morning (I know, because I checked at 6 a.m., and Yahoo Sports was in the process of uploading them around 7 when I checked again). So, it took about six-and-a-half hours for Yahoo Sports to upload the video highlights.

I also noted that the story carried an update line of "Monday, Mar 20, 2006 12:41 am EST" (2:41 after faceoff) but that it was not a p.m. lead and contained no quotes. As of 8:45 a.m. Eastern Time, there was still no p.m.-er.

So, I now live in an age when a service (Yahoo Sports) is quicker to put up the video highlights than the p.m. lead! And I know that AP did, indeed, write the p.m. lead; I found it online on ESPN, but without a timestamp. However, ESPN does not (yet) include the video highlights!
