Mason's Victory Memories on iTunes
Given that
George Mason University had never won an
NCAA men's basketball tournament game until this past weekend, I'd say that it's definitely worth the $1.99 per game that
CBS Sports is charging for next-day, condensed versions of the games on
iTunes, in collaboration with
CSTV.
This eight-to-10-minute highlights packages include some analysis and commentary for each game. In the past, I might have save the clipping in a scrapbook. Today, you save the highlights on your computer in iTunes.
"This was how CBS envisioned the future when we made the unprecedented bundled rights deal with the NCAA that began in 2003," says Sean McManus, president of CBS News and Sports, in this March 14 Apple press release.
Given what CBS pays the NCAA (billions) for the rights to the 63 tournament games each year, it's just a drop in the bucket right now. But it's yet another source of income for the rights -- and for $1.99 a shot, I'll be saving my school's games (George Mason) for future peeks.
