Final Four Run Makes Mason an Online Hit
Day in and day out, George Mason University's Office of University Relations posts articles online on the Mason Gazette, an electronic information resource primarily for the school's faculty and staff. "Stories normally get a couple hundred hits," says Tara Laskowski, a Gazette editor.

For example, when Abdullah Abdullah, the former foreign minister of Afghanistan, spoke on campus recently, the article on the Gazette attracted nearly 400 page views -- an abnormally high number probably resulting from the diverse nature of the Mason student body. Another story about the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" playing at the Johnson Center Cinema attracted only 57 total views.

So, what impact has Mason's improbable march through the NCAA men's basketball tournament to the Final Four had on the site?

Well, the story "Patriots Take It to the Rim: Final Four Bound!" deserved the exclamation mark with more than 20,000 page views on Monday, March 27 as of 7 p.m. ET and more than 30,000 page views since the story went up late Sunday afternoon. There have been more than 36,000 page views for the site's story on the win against North Carolina March 19.

"Patriot Fever!" says Laskowski. "I've never seen anything like it. Campus is crazy. The whole world suddenly loves us. It's awesome. Nothing like sports to people riled up about something!"
