It’s not often that you get to peer into a great newspaper’s newsroom and see what sources they use, but the New York Times has done that by putting its Iraq Navigator online for all to see and use.
The
Iraq Navigator is a collection of useful links for covering the conflict that the
Times’ newsroom uses in its reporting.
Among the useful items are links to:
- Iraq demographic data from the CIA and the U.S. Census bureau.
- Several great Saddam Hussein biographies, including Mark Bowden's cover story from Atlantic Monthly and several archived articles from the New York Times that you’d otherwise have to pay to look at online.
- CIA and British government reports on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction.
- Relevant United Nations documents.
- Data on Iraqi oil and energy production.
- An exhaustive collection of Iraq maps from the University of Texas.
- Iraqi opposition groups, which are now starting to move into the spotlight.
