On May 11, 2003, the Times ran its 7,200-word story explaining how
Jayson Blair had misled editors, fellow reporters and readers with a long trail of plagiarism, fabrication and lies. "Most would agree that the Times is stronger [today], credibility-wise, simply by its increased safeguards," writes
Joe Strupp. "But has it lost some of its towering post as the 'paper of record' and the measure by which many judge news value? Perhaps a bit."
