Jeffrey Dvorkin says some public-radio listeners object to NPR reporters appearing on Fox News shows. "[They] tell me that the NPR presence only serves as cover for Fox's claim that it is 'fair and balanced,'" writes the NPR ombud. He doesn't object to the TV appearances, but notes: "Reporters have to stay reportorial -- not become editorial writers or opiners.
Not expressing a personal opinion might make NPR journalists less useful to other media -- especially Fox, but that is what is required."
