Hartford Courant
From a Q-and-A with departing Courant editor
Brian Toolan:
You say that The Courant's being part of the Tribune Co. benefits the reader [because the Courant can use stories from other Trib papers]. But during your tenure, The Courant's news staff has been steadily reduced in the interest of corporate profitability. Do you think that Courant readers have had to pay a price for this in terms of news coverage?
Yes, I think they have. What we try to do is still provide all the locally relevant content. Even while doing that, some things are a bit lamentable. But as I ask myself: Would we rather rely on other movie reviewers instead of taking out reporters who cover Connecticut cities and towns and state politics?
