A source tells
James Rainey that afiliates of
Eli Broad investment company and
Ron Burkle's Yucaipa Companies have submitted "a competitive bid" for acquisition of the entire Tribune company.
David Geffen, who has expressed interest in the Los Angeles Times, was not known to have submitted an offer as of Wednesday, says Rainey.
Associated Press: The joint bid for the entire company came as a surprise.
