"If it was for sale, I wouldn't have much trouble putting together a group that would be able to buy it," says Bruce Sundlun, Rhode Island's governor from 1991 to 1995. But Belo's not interested in selling. Providence Newspaper Guild administrator Tim Schick isn't certain the Journal would do better under local owners. "What we're seeing in the industry is an across-the-board reduction in force all across the country, and it's a larger thing which is unrelated to corporate or local ownership."
