The site won't debut until spring, but about a dozen journalists have already contributed stories to the prototype without pay "because they like to see a good thing go a little further," says Fern Shen, a former Washington Post staffer. She's developing the site with Marc Steiner of Baltimore's WYPR radio and Sean Carton of id5, a Baltimore interactive marketing consultancy.
