Ed Wasserman's eliminate-beats
suggestion: "Unless a newsroom has an infinite number of reporters, sources will be dealing with the same folks sooner or later, And in this era of cuts, probably sooner. But even beyond that, does anybody think that less knowledge produces better journalism? ...You want to argue that beats should be rearranged more often? I'll listen to that. But to kill 'em? Nope."
