Romenesko Letters | Maisonneuve
Reading
"Confessions of a Teenage Fabulist" in the December issue of Maisonneuve got
David Hayes wondering about the honesty of his students. "How many faked a source or a quote for a classroom assignment? How many more ambitiously invented scenes? What about entire stories, in the manner of
Stephen Glass with his legacy of faked articles at The New Republic, George, Rolling Stone & Harper's?" He says it's hard for j-school profs to spot fakes if they're done well. "Not with a couple of dozen or more students (in possibly two or more classes), & with all the stories arriving simultaneously on the same deadline."
