Deb Goeken, managing editor at Scripps' Rocky Mountain News, says a Scripps exec contends there was never a discussion of an outright sale of the company's papers, but "there was some talk of splitting the company into its newspaper and non-newspaper components to take advantage of the stock market valuation of the company's popular cable network offerings."
