Romenesko Letters
A Seattle Times editorial complained about the lack of mainstream journalists at the recent media reform conference in Memphis. Commercial Appeal editor Chris Peck was there, and shared his thoughts about the newspaper business with readers after the event. A few of them:
* * "This isn't a time for the faint of heart of the slow of step to be in the newspaper business. Indeed, a litmus test looms large for many journalists as they think of what the next newsroom; the 21st century newsroom will look like."
* * One thing is obvious to many mainstream journalists today: those among us who have lost heart, or who don't want to run this race, or who are stuck in 1979, need to get out, and are getting out of the business. But for those of any age who stay and who are willing to help reshape the news business, the future has rarely looked so bright."
* * "Journalists, far from being dinosaurs, are more like an evolving species. Only we don't have millions of years. It's more like milliseconds."
