"They have given up any hope of getting a price they think they should from the outside and will do an internal restructuring," says a newspaper exec who has spoken to Tribune management.
Michael Oneal: Tribune and its advisers have studied options such as a TV spinoff and a recapitalization of its newspapers. Among the options are taking the newspapers private, paying shareholders a big dividend and other strategies to deliver value such as buying back a large proportion of the outstanding shares.
