After a lawyer admitted leaking transcripts of confidential grand jury testimony about athletes' steroid use, federal authorities said they would drop their effort to send Chronicle reporters
Mark Fainaru-Wada and
Lance Williams to prison for 18 months for refusing to disclose their source. ||
Chronicle editorial: This news "generates a feeling of great pride and relief here. We're proud that [the reporters] held firm against intense government pressure and are relieved that they and their families will not have to pay a steep personal price for their principles."
