Cindy Schroeder says she and Ted Haggard "saw ourselves as the school's Woodward and Bernstein" in the 1970s. Schroeder was editor-in-chief of her high school paper and Haggard -- the fallen evangelical leader -- was her managing editor. "In recent months, I've struggled to reconcile the image of the closeted, gay-bashing fallen leader ...with the idealistic, fun-loving, sensitive guy I knew in high school," writes Schroeder. "The Ted Haggard that I knew in high school would shun the hypocritical, homophobic dogma of Pastor Ted. He would become a model for the acceptance of others, regardless of their sexuality."
