The US attorneys story has exposed something of a disconnect between news producer and news consumer, says Mark Jurkowitz. "While journalists appear fascinated by this battle between Congress and the White House, the public has yet to evince great enthusiasm for it." Only 8% of the public say the story was the one they followed most closely in the week of March 12. But PEJ says it filled 18% of the overall newshole last week and was the second-biggest story of the year.
