In recent weeks, the paper consulted advocates for sexual assault victims, defense lawyers, journalists, ethics experts and others in considering whether and under what circumstances to identify the woman, says executive editor Melanie Sill. "No consensus emerged, but the conversations helped us consider essential questions about precedent and impact."
