Gary Butler says he was fired by the Newport (Tenn.) Plain Talk for investigating reports that an official had killed a bear without a valid hunting license. Butler, who began working for the paper in 1999 and was axed late last year, claims his supervisors conspired with Cocke County Mayor
Iliff McMahan to suppress unflattering stories, photographs, and even a political advertisement criticizing the mayor. Butler's asking for $90 million.
