Chicago Tribune
Contract talks between Sun management and the Newspaper Guild begin today. They're among the first labor negotiations at a Tribune property since the largely non-union media company struck a deal in April to go private, writes
Barbara Rose. A Guild rep tells her: "A difficult and divisive contract negotiation is the last thing the paper needs right now." In 2003, the union
reluctantly approved a contract, then blasted Tribune "for its demeaning and destructive conduct, for negotiating in bad faith and for hiring scabs to replace loyal Sun workers."
