The Department of Justice's suit says the Daily Gazette and MediaNews Group violated federal antitrust laws when they entered into a series of transactions in May 2004 that "resulted in the acquisition by Daily Gazette Co. of the Daily Mail from MediaNews." The suit alleges the Daily Gazette intended to close the Daily Mail, but stopped the process when the DoJ probe was launched. The papers disagree with the contention that the Gazette bought the Daily Mail. || Related
