Scott Flanders is not suggesting that business journalists accept cash from sources, but "we're going to have to be more prepared to write about rumor, conjecture and speculation, if we're going to lure in and be a must-read." The CEO of Orange County Register's parent adds: "I believe American business journalism over-reports on public companies and dramatically under-reports on private companies, under-reports on private CEOs."
