MediaNews has combined the editorial functions of its six-paper Alameda Newspaper Group (ANG), which includes the Oakland Tribune, with the five-paper Contra Costa Newspapers. Publisher John Armstrong notes that members of the Guild bargaining unit at the former ANG newspapers now constitute "significantly less than 50 percent of the newly consolidated editorial group" and "accordingly, we withdrew recognition from the Guild effective today." || Earlier: Will consolidation at MediaNews kill the Oakland paper's union?
