Women's Wear Daily
"The first two letters [by editor-in-chief
Joanne Lipman] were to introduce the magazine," says a Portfolio spokeswoman. "For now, there will not be an editor's letter." Some find that surprising -- Lipman's a highly visible branding tool for the magazine, notes
Stephanie D. Smith -- and others don't. "The ed's note is generally the most poorly read page in the magazine," says Best Life editor
Stephen Perrine. "It should be. If you're doing something else that's getting less attention than the magazine, that page has to go."
