Chicago Reader
Suburban Chicago Daily Herald reporter
Justin Kmitch was so plugged into the village of Bensenville that "we'd have executive sessions of the board and we'd read about them 48 hours later," says the village attorney. Officials eventually did a Google search on the reporter and found a j-school newsletter notice about his engagement -- to the village manager's executive secretary. On September 22, the paper ran a story admitting the reporter's relationship with the woman but denied that she'd been his source.
