It's been pathetic, says New Yorker writer
Hendrik Hertzberg. "Really pathetic. There are still a few twitches left in it -- every once in a while it takes on some egregious violation of civil liberties -- but for the most part it's just pitiful." The New York Times, though, "is still totally indispensable. All the savor and meaning would go out of life if there were no New York Times."
