Janet Grimley says editors in charge of comics sections need to diversify. Run some risky comics -- the "F Minus" strip, for example -- as well as some safe old favorites like "Dennis the Menace" and "Hagar the Horrible," she advises.
John Smyntek of the Detroit Free Press, who so far this year has fielded 1,000 emails of complaint and general comments about the comics, calls his job "an interesting little dance."
