Steve Outing's company -- an experiment in grassroots media and social networking -- folded earlier this month, and now he's trying to prevent others from going through similar business heartache. "In hindsight, I think we tried to rely too heavily on user submitted content" for the Enthusiast Group's sports sites, he says. "In my view -- and based in part on my experience with the Enthusiast Group project -- user content when it stands on its own is weak. But it's powerful when appropriately combined with professional content, and properly targeted."
