Providence Journal editor Joel Rawson, 64, has told people that he's retiring April 29, reports Ian Donnis. "I think he cared about the newsroom in a way that not many people have,” says metro columnist Bob Kerr. "And I think he protected it for a long time during the decline of the paper. I think he tried to keep us able to do what we do without too many outside influences." Rawson's paper -- a Belo property -- has yet to confirm the news.
