Matthew Flamm is told by one newspaper industry insider that
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. has made a bid for Newsday. "Why wouldn’t [Sam] Zell sell Newsday, if it could be a de-leveraging event?” says an investment banker who has worked on newspaper deals. He notes that "News Corp. has the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal. It could start to monopolize New York."
