* At a meeting this week, publisher Robert Thomson berated reporters for being too arrogant and not competitive enough.
* Deputy managing editor Bill Grueskin has assigned a piece on the eviction of Marcus Brauchli. Some suspect he's casting himself as a defender of the Journal's integrity, and a martyr.
* Former MEs Paul Steiger and Brauchli have taken the brunt of newsroom anger. "Steiger is being villified for advocating the sale to Murdoch when he had so much to gain from it," says one source.
