Al Larkin's retirement will bring to a close one of the more varied careers in Boston journalism, notes Don Aucoin. The 60-year-old executive vice president joined the Globe in 1972 as a police reporter, then went to work in several newsroom positions before jumping to the business side. He says of his retirement: "It just feels like the right time."
