Bill Keller and his masthead colleagues initially resisted the
proposal, which came from the business, reports
John Koblin. "There was concern about how our readers would react," a newsroom source tells him. "There was concern whether we were taking something important away from them. It turned out in the reader interviews that it wasn't a huge deal for them. They kept saying, 'But will it be the same content?'" The Times says yes.
