Knight Ridder doesn't plan to identify would-be bidders. Gannett, Blackstone Group of New York and Carlyle Group of Washington have said they might be interested in some or all of KR's papers, but none of those three has said it was making an offer. Carlyle co-founder
David Rubenstein says: "I don't care about the Internet, I don't care about people not reading newspapers... . At a certain price, it's attractive."
