The Bee ran
this editorial about the "Little Red Book" incident on Dec. 26 -- days after it was
exposed as a hoax. "We came to work Tuesday, Dec. 27, blissfully ignorant of our error, but the bliss didn't last long," writes editorial page editor
David Holwerk. "E-mail from outraged readers, many of them from far outside The Bee's circulation area, demanded to know how we could have made such an error three days after the hoax had been revealed. Lots of the letters offered an unflattering view of the intelligence and ethics of The Bee's editorial-page staff."
