Excerpt:
Sreenath Sreenivasan, who runs the new media program
at the Columbia University School of Journalism, draws comparisons
between the online media world of today with the early days of the
Internet in 1995.
"We can guess at where all of this might go, but we are not sure what
is going to happen," said Sreenivasan. "At the same time, there is a
lot of excitement that there is new stuff coming."
It is still unclear who will capitalize on the changes, though
Sreenivasan said there is a "crisis of confidence" among traditional
media outlets, which are scrambling to figure out where the business is
headed. Still, he said, there are "real opportunities" for both
traditional media companies and new upstarts.
