Industry research indicates viewers who watch 'Oprah' also like to watch news programs, says Scott Libin of the Poynter Institute, a journalistic think-tank in St. Petersburg.
"As far as news promotion goes, a station that has 'Oprah' has a
captive audience that will stay tuned through 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts,"
says Libin, who ... worked on- and off-camera at several news shows
before joining Poynter.
On the nightly news front, strong shows such as "Survivor" and several
"CSI" series have helped CBS affiliate WKMG Local 6 tie with WFTV
during its 11 p.m. newscasts.
"This is a great time to be a (local) news show on CBS," Libin added.
