"I think that there's a potential for lightweight portable
reading devices that are powered by what is called electronic ink,"
said Howard Finberg, director of interactive learning for the Florida-based Poynter Institute for media studies.
"The advantage of the technology is that it's flexible, it can be cheap to produce and it's portable," he said.
As for what that product will look like or how content will be delivered, Finberg is uncertain.
"What's the highway? I think if you're really going to be portable,
you're going to (need) a fairly successful rollout of wireless
technology, both within the home and at the park bench."
Finberg believes many readers like their print news packaged in an
appealing way. If true, there could be demand for a device that mimics
the appearance of today's newspapers.
