This is not the first time CBS has been accused of altering
a photo. In 1999, CBS News was accused of digitally replacing an NBC
News sign in Times Square with a CBS News billboard during its New
Year's Eve coverage.
"This is not a new issue to television," said Al Tompkins at the Poynter Institute, a media studies institute in Florida.
Tompkins said the alteration hurts the show's credibility.
"Viewers, readers and online users have a reason to believe that what they are seeing is true," Tompkins said.
Tompkins said an apology to the Tribune isn't enough. "That's useful, but that still isn't telling the public," Tompkins said.
