Poynter Announces 2008 Ethics Fellows
The Poynter Institute is excited to announce the members of
the 2008 class of Poynter Ethics Fellows. The 18 fellows
represent a diverse group of hard-working journalists from print, broadcast and
online newsrooms across the United States.
They were nominated by Poynter faculty, staff and former Ethics Fellows. They
were each selected for their dedication to ethical journalism in a time of
dramatic changes in the industry.
This class of fellows will meet at The Poynter Institute in St.
Petersburg, Fla. for one week
in March, and for another session during 2009 to explore, advise and write
about key issues before the journalism world. In between the meetings, they
will work with Poynter faculty and other fellows on projects, bolster their own
knowledge, help keep Poynter grounded in the needs of the industry and share
what they've learned with other journalists. Some of their work will be
showcased on Poynter Online.
"The Ethics Fellows are quickly becoming a network of
who's who among leaders and innovators throughout the world of
journalism," said Kelly McBride,
Poynter's Ethics group leader, who was a member of the inaugural 2001 Ethics
Fellows class when she was a reporter at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Wash.
She joined the Poynter faculty a year later.
"As a group, this particular class of Fellows
represents a wonderful blend of leaders with years of experience in the
industry and the future rock stars of professional journalism."
