Secrets of Army recruiers

An Arizona Daily Star article reports on the lengths that Army recruiters are instructed to take. It makes the newspaper recruiters life sound easy.

The newspaper says that the Army's 10-page School Recruiting Program Handbook includes these tips:

  • Deliver donuts and coffee for the faculty once a month.
  • Cozy up to the office staff. "Have something to give them (pen, calendar, cup, donuts, etc.) and always remember secretary's week with a card or flowers."
  • Offer to lead calisthenics for the football team.
  • Try to "eat lunch in the school cafeteria several times each month. This will give you more visibility."

That is going the extra mile.

Give Me a Sign

As we travel our career paths, wondering where to go next, we get signs. They can be in places ordinary or unexpected. They can come from above or from the road commission. We use those signs in Ask the Recruiter.

If you see a sign that speaks to you about your career, e-mail a photo of it to joe.grimm@gmail.com. Who knows? The sign you see may serve another.
