I just recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Prior to and during my collegiate career, I worked at a small weekly paper for five years. I'm currently working at that same newspaper, and I am thinking about obtaining my master's degree.

I want to teach part time -- at the community-college level -- and I wanted to know whether a degree in journalism or education would best suit those future goals.

Thank you, and I look forward to your reply.

Dom

I'd go for a teaching degree to diversify myself. So far, almost all of your experience and education are in journalism. More journalism education will add depth to your skillset, but I think more breadth would give you more moves.

As you look for programs, and if teaching is your goal, look for places where you can study journalism education. That will help get you into advising student publications.

And remember that the student press of tomorrow will likely include many media, several of them published out of a single classroom or media office.

Coming Tuesday: No one listens to her story ideas, and she is afraid she's burning out because the work isn't rewarding.
