Move to My Boyfriend's Market?

After two years at a tiny daily in the West, I got hired into a starter beat at a 70,000-circulation paper back in my home state. I've been here eight months and feel like I've established myself well. My boyfriend, meanwhile, started a capital job in a bureau back in the West when I came here.

A position with the local paper just opened up where he lives. It looks like I may have an opportunity to move to be with my boyfriend -- covering the same beat -- on a paper about a quarter the size I work for now.
I'll leave the personal concerns involved with covering the same beat for another venue, unless you have any particular insight. I'm curious, do I gain as much I lose by leaving a larger paper to cover a capital?
Best,
Weighing my options
That depends on the boyfriend.
Seriously, this is not an even swap and we wouldn't even be talking about this were it not for your personal considerations.
But those can be important. In your quest to achieve professional success and personal happiness, I would have you go for the market that has the better chance of offering that over the next few years. Maybe he should move to be closer to your current job in your home state.
And although we are not even talking about the two of you covering the same beat, especially a capital beat, where people talk, I am concerned about that. There's a big potential for drama.
Coming Monday: After multiple go-arounds and no success with the same company, he wonders if it is just time to move on.
