About the Poynter Ethics Fellows
Each year Poynter names a class of 16-20 professional journalists as Ethics Fellows. They come from all walks of journalism, print, broadcast, online, magazine and universities. They are reporters, photographers, freelancers, producers, editors, news directors and managing and executive editors. At Poynter's expense, the Ethics Fellows gather twice a year in St. Petersburg to explore the issues of the day. They go back to their newsrooms, where they resume their daily duties and share with each other and the Poynter faculty the trials and triumphs of their work. In doing so they strengthen each other's work and provide a mechanism for Poynter to experience the nation's newsrooms in real time. Ethics Fellows often serve as adjunct Poynter faculty. They write for Poynter Online, teach in their newsrooms and at journalism conferences and often come back to Poynter as guest faculty. The key criteria for becoming an Ethics Fellows include a sharp mind, demonstrated leadership skills and a dedication to excellent journalism. If you would like to nominate a professional journalist for this program, contact Kelly McBride or Bob Steele.
