McClatchy bought 32 Knight Ridder newspapers and is planning to keep 20. Of those 20 newspapers, 10 are in states that currently have no McClatchy papers. Almost half of those 10 are in the southeast, an area that has seen population increases in recent years, which likely contributes to the "high-growth" community status McClatchy requires. In addition, McClatchy has increased its number of papers in two other southeast states, North Carolina and South Carolina. Here's a detailed breakdown of daily cumulative circulation by state.
