Warning Signs on 'Pop-Ups'

AOL pop ups

So AOL is reducing the number of pop-up ads? For who? Whe I log on to AOL at home I'm subjected to 2 pop-up ads upon sign on at at least one when I sign-off. At least when I use AOL anywhere, there is only one pop-up at inital sign-on.
But a more annoying trend are what I call "sweep across ads" I've encountered them on several newspaper sites where the ad "sweeps" across the content you're reading. And it's not obvious how to close the ad. Very annoying and very disrespectful to the readership. If anything, I'd boycott a product by an advertiser who uses this format (are you listening Mazda?)
